Air Alight project – NFA program

Day 2/126
There are so many pieces involved in putting together a convention performance!  Northern Westchester Flutes has 7 members, we’re all based in NYC and Westchester County, the area just north of NYC.  Before we accepted the NFA’s invitation, we had to figure out everyone’s summer schedules.  As it turns out, two of our members have other obligations during the convention and can’t join us (we will miss you Jessica and Sandra!).  All we know about “Air Alight” right now is that the instrumentation is for Robert Dick (solo) and 6 accompanying players.  So we invited our good friend Pam Sklar to join us for this performance and lucky for us she is willing and able.

We also already had to submit our group bio and individual bios for the NFA Convention program.  For those that have never attended a convention, the program is an absolutely invaluable resource; I can only imagine the editing and proofreading that goes into the publication!  The program is your bible during the convention, every piece at every concert is catalogued, and every performer has a bio.  I take notes right in mine and refer back to it all year long.  Many years ago the bios used to be all different lengths, but in the past year or two the NFA has adopted a strict new 300-character maximum (yes, character, you read that right!)  bio policy.  I totally agree with this new policy because it not only saves paper but puts everyone on a level playing field.  But in actuality, it was very difficult to cut our own modest bios down to that size!    For example, here’s my bio from our NWF website:

Rebecca Quigley teaches privately at her home in Cortlandt Manor, is Webmaster for the New York Flute Club, and serves on the editorial advisory board for Flutist Quarterly magazine, the publication of the National Flute Association. She performs with The Chappaqua Orchestra, Collegium Westchester, Senasqua Winds and Tapestry Chamber Music Ensemble. She received her Bachelor of Music from Skidmore College and her Master of Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Visit her website at www.rebeccaquigleyflute.com.

It’s a massive 458 characters!  So it got a haircut and became a more manageable 295 characters for the NFA program:
