YouTube goodies

This will surely be the first of many posts on YouTube videos, it’s such an amazing resource for flutists!  You can watch performances (from beginner to professional) of pieces you’re working on , see new pieces you’d like to learn, see different flutes, laugh a little, and get inspired.  There’s a little bit of all of this here.  One of the perks of playing a popular instrument is that it shows up everywhere!

“The Spiel” from Erik the Flutemaker.  It’s an advertisement for his renaissance flutemaking business, but this guy’s schtick gives Mel Brooks a run for his money!

Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck cartoon title “The Band Concert” from 1935. The orchestra is playing the Overture from William Tell when a tornado strikes:

The Copenhagen Philharmonic performing Ravel’s “Bolero” in a flash mob at the Copenhagen train station, of all places!

Bach’s “Badinerie” from the Suite in b minor, played by two flutists (and one flute!) from the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra:

And the NBC lawyers have obviously yanked this off YouTube, but in episode #101 of “30 Rock”, Alec Baldwin and Condoleeza Rice play a flute and piano duet that is ruined (hilariously) by one-upmanship.

Enjoy! To be continued….
